Descriptive Text

The Drawing

The image, is an artistic drawing. In it we can see two people, one of them is a little boy and the other is man, an old man; both are above a kind of raft, the little boy is in the front of the ship. The color of old man´s skin is white, he has a white moustaches, and long and white hair. The little boy has white skin, he has the mid of the height of the old man, his hair is yellow. The old man is wearing a white shirt, green trousers and white shoes; the boy is wearing an orange shirt, trousers color red and same color hat, he is wearing black shoes. Both of them have in their hands long sticks.

Narrative Text

Andrés Galarraga

Andrés José Padovani Galarraga was born in Caracas Venezuela; he was one the most important Venezuelan baseball players. Andrés had his debut in 1985 with the Montreal Expos in the major league baseball in the United States, his first team. Galarraga played for the Expos during six seasons at the firs time in that team, afterwards he return to the Expos in 2002.

Secondly, in the list of the Galarraga´s team was Saint Louis Cardinals for one season. Next he was signed by the Colorado Rockies since 1993 until 1997. During this period he won a batting Championship, then he moved to Atlanta Braves in 1999. His career was interrupted by a lymphatic cancer, Galarraga after a year of treatments, returned to the diamond to became in the Return of the year in Major Leagues, with a wonderful performance.

The Texas Rangers in 2001, then San Francisco Giants since 2001 until 2003, after Anaheim Angels in 2004 and finally The New York Mets in 2005, this was the year of his official retirement from baseball. Galarraga had big numbers during his 19 season’s career; 399 home runs, 1425 runs batted in and a batting average of 288 points.

In his birthplace Galarraga played for one team: Leones del Caracas, during 13 seasons, had 271 points of batting average, 61 home runs and 243 run batted in. Galarraga earned him the nickname “The Big Cat” due to his extraordinary agility in spite of his corpulent body, and big height and weight. Andrés Galarraga was considered as one of the Venezuelan bigger sportsman of all time.
